By an incredibly happy coïncidence, I participated in the biennial Fiep Westendorp Stimuleringsprijs-competition last summer. It’s a prize that three people win every two years, with a concept for an illustration-related project they would like to do. The winners get a very generous sum of money to realize their project.
And…. I won!! The two other winners of 2011 are Iris Deppe and Anika Franke.
I would like to endlessly thank the Fiep Westendorp Foundation, the jury, and Fiep Westendorp herself (although she can’t hear it), THANK YOU ENDLESSLY!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Also: thank you Adinda, Bouke and Hilde for all the pushing and all the advice.
My project is going to be about my fear that my father will die. It is a fear that has been taking extravagant shapes, and it is my ambition to make a book out of it that will be both a souvenir of him, for me, for when he dies, and a journey through the emotions that go with this angst. You will be hearing more about it.
