Tekenbeest

A project organized by Het Huis Van Betekenis. A group of illustrators were invited to respond visually to the work of Manuel Kurpershoek. Having been taught by him in art school way back, I know Manuel as a highly respected person and illustrator, well known for his journal-esque drawings that fit in the palm of your hand. Each of us got to choose one out of Kurpershoek’s vast cache of diary drawings, and start from there.
For my Tekenbeest (‘Drawing Beast’) work, I took inspiration from the concept of little slice of life drawings rather than the drawings themselves. The 25 little drawings put together in my piece start with the day we chose our Manuel drawing, and shows snippets from the week in my life after that.

Below is first my work itself, then some photos of the process of making it, and lastly some pictures from the exhibition ‘Tekenbeest’.
